We are honored that The Wheatley was recognized for this award. Craine Architecture designed this mixed-use project with 82 for-rent apartments, 14 for-sale townhomes, and a 3,800-square-foot office which Craine Architecture proudly calls home. Context was paramount in design considerations—ensuring that the building sensitively responded to the historic context of the Five Points Neighborhood. It was a pleasure working with our client, Palisade Partners, as well as with Confluence Builders.
At the 48th Annual Historic Denver Dinner, The Mirador received a Community Preservation Award. Confluence Companies hired Craine Architecture to sensitively transform the historic El Jebel Shrine into 24 luxury condominiums while retaining the grandeur of the original shrine. What a pleasure it was working to preserve 65,000 square feet of history while also ensuring the project was LEED Silver Certified.
Located in Denver’s Bow Mar neighborhood, Craine Architecture and interior designer, Beth Armijo, collaborated on this stunning home, helping the owners realize their dream. Context is always an important driver of the design process, as was the case with this project. However, as architects, we also want to maximize the confluence of beauty and function. We have overwhelming gratitude that we were able to work with such wonderful owners, and such a talented interior designer.

Wrigley on Penn will be the newest neighbor in West Washington Park, and it will bring about 10,000 sf of new restaurant and retail space to a neighborhood that already features mainstay restaurants like Carmine’s on Penn and The Spot. At about 61,000 sf, Wrigley is a mixed-use project featuring 29 condominium units above the Level 1 retail served by a secure parking garage below ground. Third-floor units have double-height ceilings with mezzanines, and all units have access to outdoor spaces.
In both material and scale, the design is in harmony with the context of the northwest corner of Pennsylvania Street and East Bayaud Avenue. Recessed storefront provides transparency at street level within a sophisticated and timelesss exterior skin of brick masonry.
Construction on Wrigley is underway with its super-structure permit recently approved by the City of Denver, and the cast-in-place concrete core elements are being poured in short order.
The project is the result of a partnership between Endurance Real Estate Partners and Martines Palmiero Construction.
Construction is well underway at Timberline Farms just west of Arvada, Colorado. The 26 acre site hosts an array of buildings containing 302 apartment units, 12 duplex units, and a central amenity zone with a clubhouse and fitness center. The site was carefully planned to maximize open space and promote social interaction among residents. Clusters of buildings surround inboard surface parking, while narrower street sections draw from more urban precedents by bringing building entries and unit patios adjacent to pedestrian sidewalks encouraging a lively walkable community. Historic farm vernacular was used as a basis of design, and is maintained throughout a site that includes community gardens and a walkable connection to adjacent parks and transit.

The Jux, a 30-unit apartment building, wrapped up construction and received its Certificate of Occupancy in October, and 43% of the units have already been leased. Located at 8th Avenue and Corona Street, the Capitol Hill project is a remodel of a century old two-story brick building that now houses a mix of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units. Over the years it has seen its use range from a Chevron station, a piano repair shop and an antiques store. To breathe new life into it, the structure’s renovation included the addition of a third story clad in sleek, dark bronze metal panels. The juxtaposition of the old brick and the new panels allows the building to seamlessly pay homage to its history while ushering it into the modern era. Endurance Real Estate Partners developed and manages The Jux, and they have several other projects in the works in the Denver Metro area.
Craine Architecture is proud to be involved in three projects in the historic Five Points Neighborhood of Denver. These projects include The Lydian, The Brownstones at King Stroud Court and The Wheatley. The Lydian’s framing is almost complete, which you can see from the photo below. The Brownstones and the Wheatley have both been completed, and the latter is home to our new office. We cannot say enough about this wonderful neighborhood! We love it here, and have met some fantastic people who continue to teach us about the history of this amazing spot in Denver. We are in awe of the historical significance of this beautiful community and we work each day to show deference and pay tribute to a community we love. Come grab a bagel at Rosenberg’s, a beverage at Coffee at the Point or 715 Club, or a pastry at The Rolling Pin Bakery. Or if you want the real treat that tips its hat to the history of the neighborhood, come check out the Jazz Festival every May. You can close your eyes and conjure up images of the days when The Harlem of the West (as it was called) was brought to its feet by performances of some of the greatest jazz musicians of all time (Billie Holiday, Miles Davis and Duke Ellington, to name a few!). Summit Sky Ranch (SSR) construction is well underway and Craine Architecture is thrilled to be a part of this team. This picturesque community is nestled in the Rocky Mountains and in close proximity to several world class ski areas in Colorado. When completed, SSR will be comprised of 240 single-family properties tailored to blend into the stunning landscape of this 416 acre site. For the past two years, Craine Architecture has been working with the SSR development team to design a community center, as well as nine individual home and cabin options that reflect the organic shapes and materials of a mountain property while retaining the clean lines of modern styling. Sixty percent of the land at SSR is preserved open space, including wetlands. Thus, wildlife will surround the residents of this community and will be accessible via a maintained trail system. If you hit the trails, you may also come across the twelve head of highland cattle that call SSR their home. We are having so much fun working with the entire Summit Sky Ranch development team to help Tom Everist realize his vision for this extraordinary property. We will keep you posted with progress!
Craine Architecture has been hired to design 25 residential condominiums in the existing El Jebel Shrine, which was built in 1930 and originally designed by William N. Bowman. Craine Architecture and Confluence Companies (developer) have been working closely with Barbara Stocklin-Steely and Denver’s Landmark Staff to sensitively design a project that aligns with the PUD standards and limitations regarding preservation and exterior alteration. These standards put particular emphasis on maintaining and preserving the southern portion of the building. We are very excited to be a part of this opportunity to adaptively re-use one of Denver’s iconic buildings!
