Throwback Thursday

Throwback Thursday 4200 2656 Kristy

The temperatures are heating up and we are looking to get poolside!  To this end, we decided to revisit our Union West project which was completed in 2016.  Our client, Confluence Companies, asked that we design a 475,000 GSF residential complex.  This building features 267 for rent apartments, a fitness center, yoga studio, pool, and work-at-home library.  We hope the tenants are enjoying the finished project and having as much fun in it as we had designing it!

Riverwalk Update

Riverwalk Update 1500 1121 Kristy

We are approaching the completion of the south building at Riverwalk!  This is a $65 million, mixed-use project in Castle Rock, Colorado that will deliver 230 apartments, 34,000 SF of office space and 14,000 SF of retail space. A 32-ton pedestrian bridge that is already in place, connects the south building to the north building’s pool deck.   It is always a pleasure to work with Confluence Companies and we are thrilled to be a part of this watershed moment for the city of Castle Rock.  We will post an update once the entire project is completed.  In the meantime, click here and here to view more!

Sunnyside Project Update

Sunnyside Project Update 2200 1700 Kristy

Here is a quick update for you all on Zia, which is a mixed-use project in Denver. We were hired to design a 557,000 GSF building with 120 residential condos, 316 residential apartments and 9000 SF of retail space. Construction has been moving fast! The L2 transfer slabs have been poured and they have finished topping out the stair cores. The Infinity panels are on site, which means it is going to fly up in a hurry! We will keep you posted but in the meantime, you can image it eventually looking like the renderings below.

Charlie soars!

Charlie soars! 1381 1422 Kristy

It is time for an update of our beloved big blue crane.

The crane was developed by the incredible minds of Matter.  He initially took flight about a year ago, but sitting perched high up on the chamfered corner of our building, he caught many strong winds and wanted to take flight.  We called in our reinforcements at Douglas Construction, and John & Tony were able to redesign his perch.  Given that he survived the bomb cyclone in March, we can officially name him now.  He is Charlie, named after Charlie “Bird” Parker.

Yes, that is right, we named him after the famous American Jazz saxophonist and composer. This is the perfect name for him as he overlooks The Welton Corridor in the Historic Five Points District which is home to the Rossonian.  From the 1920s to the 1950s, the Rossonian hotel became a mainstay for Black musicians as when they visited Denver they were often turned away from other hotels where they had been performing.  Much to the delight of the entire Five Points Community, the musicians (such as Count Basie, Nat King Cole, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald) would often perform late at night or on their off-nights at the Rossonnian lounge.  Talk about a memory maker!  By the late 1950’s as segregation began to ease and Black musicians had more choices as to where to stay, the hotel and its lounge saw a decline, and after several failed attempts to restore its true grandeur, the Rossonian sat empty for more than two decades.  This has been a travesty given the history of this iconic building, which many consider to the be jewel of Five Points.

Finally, plans have been solidified to bring jazz back to the Rossonian and the Welton corridor!  As part of the Five Points Community, we could not be more thrilled!

So when you are driving past our office and you see Charlie, throw on some of Charlie Bird Parker’s tunes (Passport or Leap Frog), crank it up, and smile knowing that jazz will be flowing in the Five Points Neighborhood once again.

We are speeding toward the finish line on Sova!  Hooray!  What a pleasure it has been to work with McWhinney & Weitz Construction on this twelve story multifamily community.  Sova is pursuing LEED Silver Certification.  As the architect for this project, we are very proud to deliver a timeless building to Uptown, which was designed with thoughtful consideration to the neighborhood, the larger Denver community and the environment.  Our hope was to create a mature and refined building that will age well, and  help create a feeling of permanence in the Denver cityscape.  We will showcase the final product on our website soon!

Rossonian

As the architect for the Rossonian Rehabilitation and Addition, we are contributing to the revival of this historic building as a music venue and hotel. We are excited to be working on such a significant project that is also near our offices in the Five Points neighborhood. Rocky Mountain PBS ran a segment about the Rossonian Renaissance.
