Design Challenge

Presented with a site in an exceptional urban location, the team was tasked with designing a building that addresses the street, further activates a busy intersection, and capitalizes on mountain views to the west.

Accomplishments & Design Solution

With the walkability of the Governor’s Park neighborhood, it was important to begin by appropriately addressing the public realm. Simply composed masonry volumes are integrated in such a way as to respond to the urban and environmental conditions and the aforementioned public realm. At the point of their intersection, the cladding peels away from the sidewalk to reveal the activity of the spaces within.

Townhome residences march along Sherman, while the lobby addresses the heavily traveled 7th Ave. The glass volume housing the fitness center occupies the corner and provides an active presence into most evenings.

The upper floors are skinned to provide texture similar to that of corduroy fabric, providing a level of softness as the building meets the sky. The building’s occupants enjoy a prominently situated sky lounge and roof deck, offering equally impressive views of downtown and the mountains to the west.
