Design Challenge
Design and a secondary gathering place that activates the lakefront year-round and provides a flexible setting for recreation, social events, and everyday use.
Accomplishments & Design Solution
The Lake House form takes cues from barn structures in the surrounding valley, translated into the modern mountain language of Summit Sky Ranch.
Inside, the building is organized around a large open room. A kitchen supports everything from post-adventure snacks to shared meals. Seating areas cluster around a fireplace that gives the room warmth and focus. Kayak storage and service spaces are integrated directly into the building. A covered breezeway passes through the building, creating a casual, weather-protected space.
Outside, the architecture extends into the landscape through a boardwalk, sandy beach, and wraparound deck that lead directly to the lake. Warm weather brings out the paddleboards, kayaks, and lakeside gatherings. In the wintertime, it’s a place for ice skating and fireside warmth. The Lake House functions less as a formal amenity and more as a shared utility for a community that lives outdoors.
