Last month, we took part in Canstruction Jeffco, a creative food drive that brings the design and construction community together to help fight hunger.
Hosted by the West Metro Chamber, the event challenged teams of architects, engineers, builders, and other creative professionals to design and construct large-scale sculptures made entirely of canned food. At the end of the event, all of the cans are donated to a local food bank.
Our team partnered with Confluence Builders and Fortis Structural to create a can-built tribute to Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The structures were then exhibited at Emory Elementary School in Lakewood, where visitors could vote for their favorites. Competition was fierce — but we knew the best ‘can’ would win.
Canstruction® began in 1992 through the Society for Design Administration (SDA) as a way to unite design and engineering through creativity and community service. Since then, the program has helped raise more than 95 million pounds of food worldwide.
For the Jeffco event, all donated food supported The Action Center, which distributes more than two million pounds of food each year to neighbors facing hunger across the region.
We’re grateful to the West Metro Chamber for organizing the event and to the many teams who participated, including Archway Communities, Artaic Group, TeamLogic IT of West Denver, and Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies. It was a fun way to bring our industry together for a good cause.
Congratulations to all the winners, including our partners at Confluence Builders, who took home the Staff Pick Award for “Red Rocks Canphitheatre!”
